Innovations in Multi-Physics Methods Development, Validation, and Uncertainty Quantification

This paper provides a review of current and upcoming innovations in development, validation, uncertainty quantification nuclear reactor multi-physics simulation methods. Multi-physics modelling simulations (M&S) provide more accurate realistic predictions the reactors behavior including local safety parameters. M&S tools can be subdivided two groups: traditional on assembly/channel spatial scale (currently used industry regulation), novel high-fidelity pin (sub-pin)/sub-channel scale. The trends design analysis are towards further verification, validation multi-scale combined with propagation. Approaches currently applied for summarized illustrated using established Nuclear Energy Agency/Organization Economic Cooperation Development (NEA/OECD) benchmarks. Novel allow insights crucial to resolve challenge high impact problems previously impossible tools. Challenges discussed along needs developing benchmarks based experimental data. Due their complexity, codes still computationally expensive routine applications. fact motivates use models inform low-fidelity codes, leading improved M&S. propagation across different scales (multi-scale) phenomena demonstrated OECD/NEA Light Water Reactor Uncertainty Analysis Modelling benchmark framework. Finally, increasing role data science analytics techniques development is summarized.
